If you want a car to get from Point A to Point B, you buy a Toyota. This is final and non-negotiable modern wisdom. But Americans buy cars for so many reasons other than reliability and longevity. When we’re young we need a car that’s cheap! When we’re raising a family, we need a, um, MINIVAN. But sometimes, some of us have to buy a car just because “we love it” — when a car going down the road or seen at a stoplight makes your heart skip a beat — those are few and far between. Having made nearly all the non-Italian car ownership mistakes already in my life, I can tell you that despite it all, here are some cars that I think were designed by someone who really knew how to make a pretty car — a balanced car — a looker.
