I grew up in a family of five boys, so it has taken me extensive study to understand these complex little female creatures. I’ve had 15 years of experience now, so I want to share what I know with some of you that may be earlier in your journey. Feel free to comment or make suggestions of your own!
#1 – Crutches and Bandages. People joke about toddlers having more fun playing with the box a toy came in than the toy itself. I have a similar tale. At various points in their young lives, my girls have had injuries that have made us the owner of crutches, immobilization boots, ace bandages and braces of all kinds. I find that girls (and sometimes boys too) absolutely love playing with realistic medical supplies. I have seen every kid in our neighborhood walking around on our crutches and I have seen some dastardly looking dolls bandaged to the hilt.
Slime. There I said it. There is no gift that has had quite the impact on our household as homemade slime. If you feel your girls are in need of STEM education, get them some Borax and contact solution and baking soda and soon they, and you, will have a PhD from the School of Slime hard knocks. You will see crap happen to your house that you never could have expected before having children. If you are the permissive parent in the neighborhood you must be prepared for slime-a-thons that will end with major property damage, crying and creative grounding and punishments too complicated to re-iterate.
